In the Leinster Club Championship on the 18th November 2008 Raharney faced the renowned Ballyhale Shamrocks in the semi final. In a very competitive game Ballyhale eventually prevailed.

With the previous 4 championships having been shared between Raharney and Clonkill many Westmeath gaels hoped for a classic final. While this may not have been a classic in the purist sense the 2010 county final will surely go down in the annals of Westmeath GAA as one of the most dramatic and memorable finals for many a long year.

On a dry day with a slight wind blowing into the apartment end Raharney started brightly and had edged into a 0-08 to 0-04 lead after 20 minutes. However Clonkill powered into the game and in a spurt before half time scored 5 unanswered points to lead by 1 at the break.
In the second half Clonkill continued to dominate with Raharney playing second fiddle and it seemed the men in green and gold looked set for an easy victory. A well taken goal pushed Clonkill 6 points clear with 6 minutes of normal time remaining and at this stage Raharney needed a miracle.

A master stroke by management moved Paul Greville to the full forward line and the Westmeath star duly obliged with a brilliant goal and a point. In a pulsating finish with Raharney supporters roaring the team on, Greville won a 21 yard free with Raharney 2 points down. A confident Brain Connaughton stood up and blasted the resulting free to the Clonkill net. With time up Clonkill attacked again but were narrowly wide and referee James McGrath sounded the final whistle.

The scenes of joy and jubilation at final whistle were unprecedented and it seemed like every man, women and child from Raharney was on the field to celebrate this victory. A very emotional and relieved captain John Shaw accepted the Westmeath Examiner cup on behalf of the team.

This victory was a tribute to the great spirit and never say die attitude of this group of players and is also a reflection of the great will to win within this team.

Playing with great teamwork and battling spirit Raharney emerged victorious on a score of 0-17 to 0-14 and earned a historic victory over Offaly opposition. A semi final clash against Oulart the Ballagh from Wexford was scheduled for November 14th.
